After being overcharged 50 cents for a bottle of wine at Farmer Jack I was told by the Customer Service clerk that cigarettes and liquor are exempt from the scanning error fine. I am unable to find this within the Michigan Scanner Law document. Who is correct?
Thanks,
Mary

Dear Mary,
I have read and reread the Michigan Scanner Law from start to finish and have been unable to find any reference to this supposed exemption within the contents of the law, though it has been cited
many times by retailers.
If you would be so kind as to print off a copy of the law, return
to the store, with a copy in hand and ask the clerk to show you exactly where in the law this exemption is found. I for one would
love to know where they are coming up with this malarky.
Thanks for writing, please let us know how things turn out.
Today the same clerk told me I would have to come back tomorrow when the manager was in. She was told by her Manager to tell me Liquour and Cigarettes are excluded.
Back to FarmerJack for the 3rd time, spoke to the Manager, showed him the Scanning Law document. He said he would have to check, then called the clerk who then gave me the $5.00 fine.
I have another fine to collect at the other Farmer Jack. I could make a career out of collecting fines at Kroger and Farmer Jack! Will donate all fines to a charity.
Mary
