Asking is Free! The Michigan scanner law is very vague and has created a great deal of controversy. In fact, I got chewed out by one reader, in a series of several posts because my advice did not line up with the "personal opinion" of the attorney general.

I've had several readers write in who have examined the law and they disagree with the attorney generals "faq" on the subject.

The bottom line is the law is ambiguous. The attorney general states that you should consult an attorney and that his opinion is simply that - his opinion.

It's obvious the store doesn't care that they are ripping off their customers by not honoring their own sale. If you make a big enough deal out of, 9 times out of 10 the manager will honor the bounty payment, just to get you out of his or her hair.

The law needs to be fixed and until it is, this will be a continuing problem for Michigan shoppers.
