Scanner Law Violation?
Posted: 2007-01-25. Categories: Meijer

I have a question, I was shopping at the Meijers in Portage and was overcharged for 2 rolls of wallpaper ($1.00 over each). Now, they didn’t give me a hassle about the $2.00 or about the scanner law in general, but what I got back was $7.12.

My question is, since they scanned 2 items wrong, shouldn’t $5.00 apply to each of them?

Thanks
Julie Lynn

    Dear Julie,

No, Section ยง10a: Section 445.360a (2) of the law is clear on this:

If the loss is suffered by 1 buyer within 1 transaction on 2 or more identical items, the amount to be tendered by the seller shall be the difference on each item, plus an amount equal to 10 times the difference on a single item but which is not less than $1.00 and not more than $5.00.
