Customer Services Issues

I have been reading your site as I reside in Grand Rapids Michigan and had a problem at 4 a.m. in the Grandville Meijer.

I purchased a set of pajamas which were advertised in their ad and on a sign at 40% off. I noticed as soon as I got my receipt that I was charged full price. I immediately told the cashier and she said I would have to come back the next day to deal with it at the customer service desk, because they were currently closed (apparently, customer service is only open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.).

I found this upsetting as I am claustrophobic and have a hard time handling the large crowds often found at Meijer during the day. She said because I had paid with my credit card, that the money can only be credited back to my card and only customer service can do so.

I know of the scanner law as Meijer (surprisingly enough) informed me of it when I thought I received too much back for an item I was overcharged for (I got my difference plus the $5). They told me it is the scanner law and the $5 was a way of saying they were wrong and they appreciate being informed of mistakes.

Any way, I received very poor customer service this cold winter morning and decided that instead of just coming back and getting the 40% I was due, I was going to site the scanner law and get my $5 as well. I researched to be able to be knowledgeable when I went in and now understand that because the pajamas were not individually marked, they do not have to follow it.

I am writing today as I see that another person said they found a loophole where they may be able to get at least mileage rate for having to return to the store to get the refund for the incorrect charging. Is there a way I can learn more about this, or contact this other person (also in Grand Rapids) so that I can attempt to use it as well?

I hope there is another way I can be compensated for this. The added mileage on my car, the cost of gas, and the fact that because Meijer charged too much, and Meijer feels that no one can provide a refund to a credit card between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., I have to be inconvenienced in order to receive my refund.

Thanks for the site, I am glad to see another every day citizen doing what they can to help those of us who have had similar problems. You are doing a good thing and all good things are rewarded to us ten-fold. Keep up the good work.
