Meijer Cashier Preaches The Gospel
A box of brownie mix rang up at $2.23 at the Lexington, KY store and I thought they were on sale, so I interruped the cashier and told her the brownies were supposed to be 4 for $5.
She paused briefly then continued to scan my other items and put them in the same bag as the brownie mix. I thought it was impolite of her to ignore me so I said, “you could at least do a price check.”
She seemed frustrated and said, “Lord Jesus, I was going to to do that.” She continued with “I don’t know what your problem is I haven’t done anything to you.”
After the price check I handed her a bunch of coupons. She began scanning them and instead of laying each one down after the scan she was shuffling then in her hand. I was certain she was going to miss some so I told her she might have missed some of the coupons.
She got upset about that and said, “I don’t have to take this. There’s something wrong with you, you need Jesus!”
Then she picked up the phone and called somebody and talked for what must have been 30 seconds or longer while her back was turned to me and my friend. Finally she hung up, turned around and gave me my total. I paid, put my bags in the cart and stood there while she checked out my friend’s purchases.
While she was doing that a female employee walked up and asked, “Is he still here?” The cashier had her back turned and didn’t answer her. The other employee looked right at me and walked away. I don’t know if she was a manager or from security.
How’s that for customer service? The cashier can ignore the customer’s concern about an overcharge, then talk down to him and tell him that something’s wrong with him and that he needs Jesus. And to top it off I suppose the manager or security personel the cashier called was going to throw me out of the store!
I just don’t know what else to say about this encounter. But I do know I don’t like being treated this way at a store I love to shop at. I emailed this complaint to Meijer using their web form but they never even replied! They don’t care! Any advice?
Carl
Dear Carl,
I’m afraid I would have walked out and left my groceries there. That clerk had a real attitude problem.
If Meijer refuses to do anything, the only thing you can do is vote with your wallet. Take your business elsewhere.
I will say it’s not uncommon for Meijer to take their sweet time getting back with you on a complaint. You could still hear back from them. Give it a few more days, then follow-up with a phone call on their toll-free number.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
