Kohl’s Department Store gives customer hard time returning over-charged backpack.
Yesterday, August 28, 2006 I went to Kohl’s at 12:13 p.m. and purchased two items: a backpack and a Nike Toddler Outfit. In the backpack the cashier removed a card and put it through the scanner. My total came to $61.19.
I asked if the discount was included because it seemed like a high amount for 2 items. I had to return to work so I did not look any further into the matter until I returned home later last night. I thought for a child’s backpack to be $32.50, there must be some mistake here so today at lunchtime I returned with the receipt in hand to get my refund of $32.50.
At customer service I was told they had to get a manager because the card that was in the backpack did not match the backpack I was returning for a refund.
Then I was asked to go back to the register to see if the cashier who was there yesterday was the same one and she was. The cashier looked at the item and echoed what we already knew and that the card in there did not match the item, at which point she said I purchased three items. How stupid is that when my receipt showed two items purchased.
So again back to customer service and another supervisor was contacted and finally at 12:40 p.m. I was given my refund of $32.50 plus $2.80 tax. Talk about being treated like a circle jerk!
I sincerely feel as though I was not treated fairly in this store because of all the back and forth and finally that the cashier said I bought 3 items on a 2 item receipt.

Dear Dorothy,
I’m so glad you were able to get your money refunded. When I read that the tags did not match the backpack you purchased, I was afraid they were going to refuse you.
As for the sales clerk, I swear I don’t know where they get these people. It should have been obvious by the receipt that you had only purchased two items.
I’m still shaking my head over this one.
We purchase a lot of things online these days because shopping can be such a hassle.
So, far we’ve had good luck with our online purchases, which have been mostly from Amazon because I trust them and they have a good return policy. I do appreciate the free shipping on most items over $25. Amazingly enough they now carry grocery items, though I have yet to buy my groceries online, I just might try it.
Thanks for writing.
