While paying for mine and my son’s sandwich at a local Subway, I noticed that the girl behind the counter reached into the bread oven, took out a loaf, cut off a piece, ate it, returned the loaf to the oven, and did so without plastic gloves.
I was horrified. She had greasy hair, zits all over her face (hate to be judgmental, but…), was overweight (obviously didn’t take care of herself) and certainly didn’t look like the kind of person who would wash her hands after going to the bathroom. Whether or not she does is irrelevant.
It is the law, here in Colorado, that food handlers must wear plastic gloves. I won’t be eating there again. Neither will my kids.

It’s a good thing I wasn’t there to see that. I would have said something to her. At least she used a knife. She could have just taken a bite out of the loaf. 🙂 That would have been really nasty.
I don’t blame you for not wanting to eat there. You really should consider calling the manager and letting him or her know what you witnessed. I would feel really bad if someone were to get sick because of these unsanitary practices.
